Murder for sunglasses nets 36 to life - 2013-05-27 19:42:58

In the week in 2010 when Lincoln “Linc Beanz” Lewis was supposed to be the opening act at a concert for rapper T.I., he was instead was laid to rest.

Lewis, 24, believed he was on his way to being a rap star. Then he and his $1,300 Cartier sunglasses got enough attention to get him killed April 12 in Avondale.

Robert Davenport really admired Lewis’ designer sunglasses. Just after four in the afternoon that sunny day, Davenport walked up to Lewis as they stood in the 3400 block of Harvey Avenue, put his arm around Lewis, spun Lewis so he could shoot him in the stomach and, as Lewis was falling dead, snatched the sunglasses off his face.

Then the 5-foot-2 Davenport, who prosecutors said was a member of the Little Midget Killers gang and is known on the streets as “Li’l Rob,” went through Lewis’ clothes to steal a few dollars and a cell phone before he ran away.

“This is another senseless street murder in the city of Cincinnati,” Assistant Prosecutor Seth Tieger told Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Winkler at Wednesday’s sentencing.

“Mr. Davenport is extremely dangerous and really the only answer is to lock him up and never let him out.”

The judge sent Davenport, 25, to prison for 36 years to life.

Lewis’ family said Lewis bought the $1,300 gold and black sunglasses with money he made from his job at Taco Bell.
